The French embassy in Nigeria has committed to strengthening bilateral relations with Nigeria by incorporating sports diplomacy into its physical health initiatives.
The embassy emphasises that combining sports with health-focused activities not only promotes physical fitness but also serves as a powerful tool for fostering friendship and mutual understanding between the French community and their Nigerian counterparts.
By cultivating a lively and interactive atmosphere, the embassy aims to create deeper connections, nurture mutual respect, and facilitate cultural exchange between the two nations.
This initiative was made known by the Head of Cooperation at the French embassy, Mr. Thierry Valentin, during the launch of the second edition of ‘Fitness Core,’ a monthly sporting event organised in collaboration with Paragonx at City Park, Wuse, Abuja.
Valentin shared that the second edition of Fitness Core, much like its predecessor, is designed to promote public health and well-being while also reinforcing diplomatic relations through shared experiences and social engagement.
“Through this enjoyable sporting event, ‘Fitness Core,’ the French embassy is not only encouraging an active lifestyle but also laying the groundwork for lasting partnerships and goodwill between France and Nigeria. We deeply appreciate the warm reception from Nigerians towards our initiatives, including this event,” he remarked.
The cooperation attaché at the French embassy, Ketty Régis, reaffirmed the embassy’s dedication to prioritising programs that promote physical health and encourage social interactions.
She explained that Fitness Core emerged out of a spirit of solidarity during last year’s Olympics in France, and the positive demand has led to this second edition.
Ketty disclosed that the embassy has been committed to creating impactful initiatives along gender lines advocacy, environmental issues, support for people living with disabilities, and agriculture; all programs aimed at strengthening mutual bilateral ties.
She notes, “Fitness Core was born out of solidarity with the Olympics in France last year, but the demand for it has led to the second edition. The embassy’s partnership with Paragonx in ‘Fitness Core’ reflects its commitment to prioritising physical health, allowing individuals to enjoy themselves while connecting with others and maintaining a healthy lifestyle.”
A lead partner from Paragonx and one of the event organisers, Abayomi Gbenga Adewole, emphasised that ‘Fitness Core’ aims to be a key partner in promoting health and wellness among Nigerians, the French community, and the diplomatic circle. He praised the French embassy’s ongoing commitment to initiatives that are both medically and socially beneficial.
“Following the success of the first edition, Fitness Core has gained impressive popularity and impact. The event is set to run for six months, with each session contributing to the overall physical well-being of participants. Maintaining physical health is essential for overall vitality, and I encourage more individuals to invest in their well-being,” he concluded.
Also, the Chief Executive Officer of ProjectMufasah and a facilitator at the event, Nathaniel Shofarasin, encouraged individuals to adopt a consistent fitness routine, such as gym workouts, swimming, biking, jogging, or brisk walking, all of which significantly enhance heart health and overall vitality.
He stressed the importance of prioritising internal health alongside external appearances, noting that both are crucial for achieving holistic well-being.
“Physical health is vital as it contributes to our cognitive and physical development, as well as overall wellness. Regular exercise is crucial for longevity in good health. It is important to focus on eating well, getting enough sleep, and being active, as these three core principles can ensure excellent physical health. The goal is to foster regular movement that keeps the heart healthy and active,” he stated.
